LAUV

ART DIRECTION | FABRICATION | INSTALLATION

In collaboration with Jenna Marsh and Elvis Maynard, we designed this music video for LAUVโ€™s song โ€œDrugs and the Internet.โ€ Utilizing a mishmash of early-2000s iconography, we created a surrealist meta-millennial milieu in keeping with LAUVโ€™s artistic vision. It debuted on MTV and The Rolling Stone. In case you were wondering the two hairless cats are named Biggie and Gucci.

CROCS x ZOOEY DESCHANEL

DESIGN | ART DIRECTION | INSTALLATION

Collaborating with Jillian Martin, we set out to bring new life to the established Croc brand. We designed a series of sets, including this monochromatic green dressing room and boho chic hangout for Zooey Deschanel, which will be slowly unveiled throughout the year, as part of their new social media campaign.

BENEFIT ROLLER LINER DINER

CREATIVE PRODUCTION | FABRICATION | INSTALLATION

In this collaboration with PopUp Mob, we transformed LAโ€™s iconic (insert name)*diner into the "Benefit Roller Liner Diner." We took the tired 50s nostalgia diner trope, and shook it to itโ€™s core. Using all of our powers, we not only redesigned the entire building, but fabricated and installed props that elevated the concept to new heights. We were also able to flex our technical muscles, constructing a roller skate safe floor for our servers on wheels. The pop up, and our work, was featured in LA Weekly and Hello Giggles.

PRODUCTION DESIGN | FABRICATION | INSTALLATION

For this commercial spot, we constructed a 360-degree ecologically alternating set. It was designed around Ernesto Lomeliโ€™s cinematic vision; a single seamless shot that transitioned from a floral paradise to a lush forest in order to showcase both the brandโ€™s newest perfume and cologne simultaneously.

RITA ORA x SPOTIFY

ART DIRECTION | INSTALLATION

Spotify, wanting to throw an exclusive listening party for Rita Oraโ€™s new album (Phoenix), called on Art Mafia for a little assistance. Using West Hollywoodโ€™s The Abbey as our canvas we worked to design a space specific to Oraโ€™s lineage and vision. Drawing inspiration from her fatherโ€™s pub โ€œThe Queens Arms,โ€ as well as, the greater London ambiance, we created a space juxtaposed; modern LA with a dash of London of yesteryear. Using both pre-fab kitsch and original pieces, we explored this concept fully. The event was featured in The Blast & Daily Mail.

LOVE RUSH X RACHAEL CANTU

DESIGNED | DIRECTED | PRODUCED

A passion project of Art Mafia founder, Kalie Acheson; she designed and directed this colorful ode to Rachael Cantu's song "Love Rush." To tell the story of two lovers' desire to connect, Kalie fabricated an intricate string installation using the tangled web as an analogy for the emotional transformation of when lust turns to love. Expressed entirely in bodily movement, the intimate exchange between dancers Rascal Randi and Allaune Blegbo was choreographed by movement director, Himerria Wortham. Kalie, Himerra and Director of Photography Ernesto Lomeli, collaborated to tell a complex and relatable story as simply as possible.

THE MAR VISTA TIME TRAVEL MART

DESIGN | FABRICATION | INSTALLATION

An intensive and rewarding project, Time Travel Mart meant the total overhaul of a large space, which had to operate as both an art installation and functional store. Time Travel Mart is the front for 826LA's wonderful non-profit youth creative writing program, and we wanted to give them something that theyโ€™d love as much as we love them. As this is an ongoing project, Art Mafia continually contributes store updates, as well as, holiday revamps. You can find more on this project, and the great work they do on 826LA website.

CAL JAM 2018

ART DIRECTION | FABRICATION | INSTALLATION

We created a series of outdoor installations for Dave Grohlโ€™s Cal Jam Festival, including two gigantic entryway rainbowsโ€”one that was 80 feet wide and another that was 40 feet wide. Wanting to explore the campy and decadent nature of music festivals in general, we also designed a memorial installation for Donald Featherstone (the inventor of the pink plastic lawn flamingo). Our sea of flamingos soon met a hurricane of selfies.

MIGUELโ€™S WILDHEART MOTEL

ART DIRECTION | FABRICATION | INSTALLATION

For this project, we were tasked with bringing the surreal vision of singer/songwriter Miguel to life: transforming a seedy motel into a 21-room installation. The final event was both a destination party and visual journey. The limited one-weekend experience included a star-studded karaoke room, as well as, a live concert performance. We art directed and constructed build-outs for each of the 21 rooms, which immersed patrons in Miguel's fantasy world. Highlights included a pink jungle room, a grotto cave room, and an upside-down room all designed completely from scratch. Celebrities, press, and social media influencers alike all lined up to enter Miguel's magical world. Guests and talent included Rihanna, Skrillex, Dr. Woo, and Travis Scott.
